It’s officially summertime. I love summer! I especially love the freedom of summer, spending hours in the pool with my family, and the BBQ’s! But, nothing says summer more than a delicious, juicy hamburger. A good hamburger bun, though, will either make it or break it. Store bought buns just don’t cut it. Once you make homemade, you’ll never buy them again.
This recipe is super quick and you can almost have them ready to eat by the time you heat up the grill and cook the burgers. Most importantly though, they are delicious and will hold together all your toppings!
To make the dough; in a large mixing bowl, attached to a stand mixer (or,if doing it by hand, use a large mixing bowl with a dough whisk), knead together all the ingredients, adding the flour 1/2 cup at a time, until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl and the dough is tacky.
Continue kneading the dough for about 5-10 minutes. Remove the dough from the bowl onto a lightly greased surface. Divide the dough into 8-10 equal parts. Form each piece into a ball and place 3 inches apart on a greased pan. Flatten each dough ball slightly. Cover the pan and let them rise for 30-45 minutes.
If desired, mix together 1 egg and 1 Tablespoon of water and brush onto the top of each bun and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake at 400 degrees F for 12-18 minutes until tops of the buns are browned. Remove from the oven and cool on a cooling rack until ready to use. Cut the buns in half and top with a hamburger patty and all the delicious toppings you desire. Enjoy!
